Beverly Lawery Obituary

On June 19, 1950, the world gained a spark of sass and sunshine when Beverly Taylor
was born to Jessie and Inez Taylor in Cleveland, Ohio. The second of five children,
Beverly quickly distinguished herself as the rebel—the one most likely to speak her
mind, challenge the rules, and still somehow charm her way out of trouble. If the Taylor
household had a soundtrack, Beverly was the drumline: bold, rhythmic, and impossible
to ignore.
As a teenager, Beverly accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and was baptized
at The Olivet Institutional Baptist Church under Rev. Odie M. Hoover. Her faith was a
quiet but steady anchor throughout her life.
She graduated from John Adams High School in 1968 and went on to attend
MetroHealth School of Nursing, where she discovered her calling. Nursing wasn’t just a
job for Beverly—it was a mission. She began her career at Kaiser Permanente, where

she also met her future husband, Erwin Lawery. Their courtship was the kind that could
have been a movie: a little sweet, a little stubborn, and full of flair. They married in 1982
and soon after welcomed their beloved son, Iman Khalid, the pride of Beverly’s heart.
Beverly later continued her nursing career at South Pointe Hospital, serving patients for
a total of over forty years. She was the kind of nurse who didn’t just care for
people—she advocated for them, fussed over them, and occasionally scolded them if
they weren’t following instructions. She treated every patient like family, which meant
you were in excellent hands… but you were also going to behave.
If you knew Beverly, you knew she was gloriously, unapologetically herself. She was
sassy. She was outspoken. She marched to the beat of her own drum—and sometimes
added a tambourine just to make sure you were paying attention. She loved gardening,
and she could cook a pot of collard greens so good it could make you rethink your life
choices. Her deviled eggs and muffins were legendary, the kind of dishes that
disappeared from the table before you even sat down.
On Friday, March 27, 2026, at the age of 75, Beverly passed away at Cedarwood Plaza
after a battle with illness. She left this world with the same strength she lived in it—on
her own terms, and undoubtedly giving the nurses a few last instructions.
Beverly leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted son, Iman Lawery; her
granddaughter Taylor; her sister Lora Daugherty; niece Yvette Brown; nephew Malacha
Wade (LaKenya); and her beloved cats, Princess and Sweet Pea, who will forever miss
their favorite human. She is reunited in peace with her parents and siblings, Jessie Mae
Wade, Stanley Taylor, and Anthony Taylor.
