Grant Carter

February 4, 1940 ~ August 3, 2017 (age 77) 77 Years Old


Grant Carter, age 77 entered into his eternal rest on Thursday, August 3, 2017. He was born February 4,1940 in Cleveland, Ohio to Harold & Willie Mae (Brown) Carter Sr. (deceased). He had three brothers Harold, Ulysses and Jeffrey, and two sisters Delores (Reo), and Joan (deceased). Grant received his formal education in the Cleveland, Ohio Public School system at Central High School. Shortly, after High School he joined the United States Army in 1959, and transferred to the Army National Guard and served his country for four years. While, serving in the military he met and married Alice Mae Doyle (deceased), in November, 1960. From this, union they had (four children) Yolanda, Desiree, Anna-Denise and Francine. He later, met Delores Wright in 1973 (deceased) and she blessed him with (three children) Andrea, Marcus and Marion. He then, met and married Judy Estes in March,1978 and this union blessed him with (one child) Karine. 

Grant was employed in many different fields, from the shipping docks in Oakland, California to the numerous steel mills in Cleveland, Ohio. But, he found his passion in 1979 at Harbor Lights in Cleveland, Ohio. Here, he learned how to help and care for hurting people. For nearly forty years he tirelessly gave himself, time and resources to thousands of people in and out of substance abuse and treatment programs.

Grant was also, a kind, caring and loving person who loved to sing, dance, and have fun. And, he had a great appreciation for fashion. 

 

He is survived by his loving wife Judy, six daughters and two sons. Through the unions he had seventeen grandchildren and thirty-one great-grandchildren. His three brothers and one sister. Along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
